AFH Portland is working with Habitat for Humanity Willamette West to develop a "Green Living Guide" for their homeowners. Most, if not all, of Habitat's clientele have never owned a house before. To help ease the transition, we are providing an easy to understand guide illustrating both how to take care of a home, but perhaps most importantly, the effects of such care (or lack thereof) on the environment.
Architecture For Humanity Portland strives to empower local communities in need by facilitating appropriate design solutions with lasting benefit and a sustainable mindset through the spirit of collaboration.
Join us the second Tuesday of every month in the White Stag Building (70 NW Couch Street Portland, OR 97209 Room 555) between 6 and 8 pm. Hope to see you there!
Thank you to the University of Oregon Portland for having such a wonderful meeting space for us!

Membership DUes
Hi all,
I noticed in your meeting notes that you felt that membership dues were voluntary. Actually, each chapter is required to have a certain number of dues paying members to maintain their status as a chapter. In addition only dues paying members will be able to post updates, meeting minutes or make other key changes to the chapter website.
We opted for a dues model in order to help support and grow the chapters. The reason for this is that when we have people who are not identified as members posting to the site or managing projects, we have no way of managing our liability. This has made it very difficult to obtain insurance for the organization as a whole--a major concern.
In the past anyone could say they were a chapter member. Some people were charging clients using the Architecture for Humanity name. Obviously this has a very negative impact for all of us who are dedicated to volunteering our services. We want to make sure anyone who is using the Architecture for Humanity name is engaged in activities that fall inside our charitable mission. At the same time, we need a method of discontinuing our association with those whose activities fall outside of our charitable mission. Membership is an effective tool for this.
In addition, we're hoping to develop sponsorship for the chapters specifically and in order to do that we need to know how many committed chapter members we have in each chapter.
